Carriere de Petit Granit
Carrière De Petit Granit is a quarry located in the Belian Ardennes. This limestone quarry was given this name because of the hardness and quality of the bluestone and was nicknamed "little granite". Usually narrow gauge was used to remove the quarried stones by elevator. However, the exploitation in Carrière De Petit Granit went a little differently. The exploitation of the slope exposed the old railway tunnel that had become abandoned. This made it possible to create a new entrance for the removal of stones. Initially this was done with a vertical lift for narrow gauge wagons. Later, the possibility was provided to extend the railway by means of an elevator and to fill the wagons directly in the quarry. You can see all this on this model.
